We Are Tapestry
The Old Testament may have seen the knotted ends and frayed edges of what God is doing, but we see through the New Testament a beautiful picture of Christ’s sacrifice. At times, our personal lives seem messy and incomprehensible, but God is at work completing the good work he has begun in us. Often we see a broken and an ineffective church, but God sees his beautiful bride preparing herself for her Wedding Day. Then we see our city, segmented and divided, but God sees His City, His people, coming to worship at the feet of Jesus.
That is what we see in Tapestry LA. The world may often see the back of the tapestry, but we see in faith, the front side of that tapestry, where God is at work in history, in our lives, in our church and in our city. We want to be threads, different, vibrant, beautiful, strong threads for the entire world to see how beautiful our God is! What an exciting thing to be a part of!
Take a look at our Statement of Faith
God is weaving a beautiful picture with the many different threads
that make up history and our individual lives
who we are
Through faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ we have been adopted into God’s family and have received new identities as His sons and daughters. As His children, we have been granted complete access into the presence of our Father. No longer do we fear condemnation but we freely enjoy intimacy with Him through the work of the gospel. As part of God’s family, we see it as our responsibility to personally care for and meet the needs of our brothers and sisters. We do not hold to a passive posture of only receiving but find it our privilege to disciple, pray for, and serve our new family. (Genesis 12:1-3, John 1:12-13, Romans 8:15-17)
The gospel is the story of Jesus who came in the form of a servant to bring renewal to a broken world. He served by giving His life, even unto death, so that others can experience the redemptive life of God. Through the cross, we have been invited into the same story and called to reflect the servanthood of Jesus. We do this by submitting to Christ’s lordship, to the leadership of the church, and to one another in a manner that glorifies God and builds up those around us. This means that we do not serve out of convenience or comfort but with a joyful passion driven by a sense of love, calling, and need. (John 13:14-15; Philippians 2:5-11)
We are sent by Christ as missionaries to the world just as He was a missionary to us. In Christ, we have new life because He has reconciled us to God through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through His work on the cross, our sins are not counted against us and the old is gone. In the same way, Jesus sends us to live this vibrant new life of reconciliation to God, others, and creation by being filled with the Holy Spirit, being set free from our self-centered ways, and proclaiming this good news to others in intentional ways. Through Jesus’ ways, people were able to see and experience what God was truly like. We hope to be faithful ambassadors of Christ by being missional in our communities through Jesus’ ways of truth, grace, and care. (John 1:14; John 20:21-22; Colossians 1:19-20; 2 Corinthians 5:16-21)
Through the example of Christ, we can see that his ultimate goal was for our restoration and peace with God and others. However he faced trials and suffering as a humble servant, full of integrity, with his eyes fixed on God the Father and what God wanted. In the same way, we need to fix our eyes on God, ask for his guidance, see what he is already doing, and reflect him in our communities.
What we do
We see each group as a team of missionaries committed to the welfare of a neighborhood. It is also the primary place where discipleship happens and gospel identities are lived out in everyday life. As any healthy cell does, we also seek to multiply. So we identify, equip, and send out new leaders to form new communities in new neighborhoods.
We meet together as a large body to worship in song and hear from the word of God. It is a chance for us to celebrate the work that God is doing in the midst of His people.
We believe that nothing is possible without God. Prayer meetings serve to demonstrate our dependence, to call upon the Spirit to empower us for His mission, and to seek the leading of God for our church. We regularly meet to earnestly seek the will of God in corporate prayer.
We believe that we are a sent community, called to bring renewal to the city around us. It is our hope that we would become good neighbors, investing and making disciples of those around us. However, the scope of our mission is not limited to our neighborhood. God sends us out to bring all peoples and nations under the lordship of Christ. We are committed to proclaim the gospel to the unreached people groups of the world.
We offer classes to equip the saints for the work of ministry and is designed to enable our members to live out the Word of God and practice their God-given gifts.. We hope through these classes people will be empowered to edify the body while also blessing the city of Los Angeles.
